Kasey Kahne says he is moving on.

On Monday, the Hendrick Motorsports driver lost his ride in the No. 5 Chevrolet for 2018.

Friday, he was at Michigan International Speedway, talking with media about plans and hustling his Chevy around the 2-mile oval in advance of Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400.

Kahne, winner of the Brickyard 400 in July, is fulfilling his obligations for Hendrick in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and could even contend for a title in his final season with the team.

Though disappointed he won’t return to Hendrick in 2018, Kahne preferred to stay positive about his career, which has seen him win 18 Cup races and capture 27 poles since his debut in 2004.

“Monday, I talked with some different owners, personnel at different teams, and just trying to show that I really want to still be in the Cup series,” said Kahne, 37, who has been replaced next year at Hendrick by 19-year-old William Byron. “I want to race here and if there is an opportunity, I would love to talk about it.”

Kahne said he owed team owner Rick Hendrick plenty after his six years with the organization.

Hendrick is actively trying to help him land another Cup ride.

“Mr. Hendrick has really been supportive and making sure that … you know, he wants me in a car (next year),” said Kahne.

“I really think I will be able to come up with something that will be very competitive and to be able to be in the Cup series for a while to come.”
