BBC Weather forecaster Ben Rich warned Brits to prepare for freezing weather as temperatures plummet ahead of the weekend.

Later this week, a low-pressure band is expected to make the UK’s weather more dismal with stronger winds and more rain set to feature.

The Weather meteorologist said: “Since the cold spell we had a couple of weeks ago temperatures have generally been on the rise. The weekend just gone brought highs of 15C in places but it looks like temperatures are going to start to dip away again.

“By the time we get into next weekend some places will struggle to get to 5C and there could well be some wintry showers.”

Earlier this month Britain was rocked by heavy snowfalls which brought the country to a standstill as sub-zero temperatures endangered travellers with icy paths across British roads.

Mr Rich said: “It looks like high pressure is going to start to build its way down from Scandinavia, allowing us to bring in more of an easterly wind.

“That is going to bring the return of some pretty cold air. It will be windy as well with the risk of some wintry showers.

Meteorologist Liam Dutton took to Twitter and stated that Britons could be set to see “another burst of Siberian air” sweep across the nation.

He tweeted: “Beast from the east, part two?

“Another burst of Siberian air may push westwards over Europe next weekend. It’s unlikely to be as intense or as prolonged as the last cold spell.

“Nevertheless, it brings the possibility of snow, frost and a late-season chill back into the mix…”

The Met Office warned gales will lash exposed regions while heavy showers could dump up to two inches of rain.

While not expected to be as severe as the recent Beast from the East Siberian blast, parts of Britain could be facing another whiteout.

The cold snap will follow a mild week with temperatures expected to reach double figures widely over the coming days.
