World No 5 Karolina Pliskova was embroiled in a tight encounter with Greece’s Maria Sakkari and lost her cool when serving at 5-5 in the third set.

The 26-year-old appeared to have brought up game point with a simple overhead smash, only for the ball to be called out.

Television replays clearly showed the ball landing in but with no Hawkeye in use and the line judge unable to verify which mark the shot had left, the line judge’s call of out stood.

Pliskova was incensed with umpire Marta Mrozinska and the line judge, even calling on Sakkari herself to verify that the ball had landed in.

The umpire called for the tournament supervisor to settle the debate and Pliskova was eventually convinced to carry on.

However, she lost the game and Sakkari served out the match in the very next game to pull off a surprise victory 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

But Pliskova was not done with umpire Marta Mrozinska, shaking hands with her opponent before smashing her racket into the base of the chair multiple times, leaving significant damage.

And her twin sister Kristyna, world No 71, took to Twitter to defend the Czech player in the immediate aftermath of the defeat.

“The worst i have ever seen @wta and i hope this lady Marta Mrozinska will never ever judge any match of me or Karolina again #blacklistforever,” Kristyna wrote.
