Golf is often criticised for not taking on new ideas but that cannot be said of the Perth International.

Last year the tournament changed from straight stroke play to include a fascinating ,watch play event.

The idea was cooked up to give the tournament more profile on a heavily congested European Tour.

Perth’s Lake Karrinyup Country Club hosts the tournament, with 2017 champion Brett Rumford out to defend his crown.

But how does the World Super 6 work? Check out our run-down over everything you need to know about the Perth International.

How does World Super 6 work?

The format of the World Super 6 was created last year to inject some pizzazz into the weekend.

The first two rounds of the Perth International run as normal, with the 156-player field reduced to 65 at the cut.

There is then another cut after the third day (Saturday) down to 24 players.

And this is where it gets interesting.

The remaining 24 players are split into two groups: the top eight and the rest.

The top eight receive byes while the remaining 16 play in the first round of Sunday’s match play.

The eight winners of the first round then play the top eight from the previous three days.

At that stage it’s a straight knockout from last-16, to quarter-final, semis and then a final.

Which holes are in the World Super 6?

Come Sunday, only six holes will be used at the Perth International for the match play.

They are: 2nd (4), 8th (3), 10th (par 4), 11th (5), 12th (3), and 18th (4).

World Super 6 prize money

There is a £1million prize fund for the 2018 World Super 6.

World Super 6 players

Lee Westwood is one of the favourites to win the World Super 6, with Ryan Fox, Jason Scrivener and Kiradech Aphibarnrat also in the running.

Former Masters champion Danny Willett is out at 100/1 with the bookies, while Andrew Johnston is in at 30/1.
