Police officers shot and wounded a man who exchanged gunfire with them and shouted about President Trump on Friday at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Florida, officials said.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was shot in the marble-floored lobby of the club’s hotel, which is owned by the Trump Organization, after the police received a report of an active gunman.

“What officers did today was nothing short of heroic,” Juan Perez, the director of the Miami-Dade Police Department, said. “They did not hesitate one second to engage an individual who was actively shooting in the lobby of the hotel.”

The suspect was “yelling information about President Trump and had an American flag draped over the counter,” the police said, adding that his motive was not immediately known: “Not saying terrorism; not discounting anything at this point.”

The gunman was shot multiple times, the police said, and he was taken into custody and to the hospital. One officer received minor injuries that were not the result of being shot, they said.

The encounter occurred about 1:30 a.m. at the club, which is west of Miami. The Doral police said there was “no further threat.”

The Trump Organization purchased the golf resort, formerly known as the Doral Resort and Spa, in 2012. The club has four courses, including its crown jewel, the Blue Monster at Doral.

The club is about 70 miles south of Mr. Trump’s weekend retreat, Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Fla.
