The world No 1 is in action this week as the ATP Tour comes to the south of France.

The glitz and glamour will follow Rafael Nadal as he bids to defend his title – and win a stunning 11th Monte Carlo event.

Nadal made his return from injury during the Davis Cup, helping Spain beat Germany last week to move into the semi-finals.

But this is the first ATP event he has played since the Australian Open in January.

And he will be hoping to show his fitness and get back to winning ways to defend his ranking points.

“I always feel good when I am here,” Nadal said.

“It’s one of my favourite tournaments in the world without a doubt and I’m just excited to be back.

“I’m looking to having good days of practice before the tournament starts and when the competition arrives I will be ready for it.”

Nadal has a bye in round one and will face the winner of Aljaz Bedene and Mirza Basic in round two.

Monte Carlo also sees the return of Novak Djokovic as he looks to fight back to fitness.

The Serb faces compatriot Dusan Lajovic in round one later today.

But Nadal has warned his rivals that he is feeling in good shape.

“I feel that I’m playing well,” Nadal said.

“It’s hopefully going to be my first event of the year that I can finish. I’m excited about that.”
