Cricket Netherlands have confirmed Ryan ten Doeschate‘s return to the national set up ahead of the side’s final two matches of the ICC World Cricket League against Namibia in Dubai on December 6 and 8.

Netherlands, the current table toppers, are seeking to become the 13th ODI side that will compete in the ICC ODI Championship that is set to begin in 2020. Netherlands will also be taking part in the 2019 World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe in March.

Ten Doeschate last represented Netherlands at the 2011 World Cup, where he became one of only three players to make two centuries in a single edition. Since then, he’s been a regular feature – and currently the captain – for Essex in England’s domestic tournaments, apart from featuring in franchise T20 tournaments in India, Zimbabwe, Australia and New Zealand and Pakistan.

“Getting a player of Ryan’s talent and experience is a massive gain for us,” Ryan Campbell, Netherlands’ head coach and former Australia and Hong Kong wicketkeeper, said. “What he brings to the squad is more than just runs, wickets and brilliant fielding. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in big matches.

“As captain of Essex, he has just led them to the Division One Championship. Our youngsters will gain knowledge that you just can’t buy off a shelf. We are on the brink of something special but we will need cool, calm heads to see us through, I have no doubt Ryan will bring that.”

Meanwhile, Netherlands won’t have the services of Michael Rippon. The 26-year old South Africa-born allrounder, who was part of the WCL squad that played Kenya in October, hasn’t secured a release from his New Zealand provincial side Otago.
