USA Network has ordered an adaptation of Philipp Meyer’s novel “American Rust” to series.

The story is set in a small Pennsylvania rust belt town and explores the rise and fall of a crime-riddled community as seen through the eyes of a sheriff with a history of violence.

With the creation of this series, both of Meyer’s published novels will have been adapted into TV series. AMC previously launched a series adaptation of “The Son,” which has been picked up for a second season.

Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman, who serve as executive producers and co-creators of “The Son” series with Meyer, wrote the pilot for “American Rust” with Meyer and will also serve as executive producers. Michael De Luca will executive produce via Michael De Luca Productions. De Luca Productions’ Elishia Holmes will serve as a co-executive producer. Quan Phung, Elisa Ellis, and Courtney Conte of Platform One Media will also serve as executive producers. David Gordon Green is attached to direct the initial episode and executive produce. The series will be produced by Universal Cable Productions and Platform One Media.

This marks the latest drama series set in a rural community at USA. Last week, the network debuted the series “Damnation.” That series follows a man masquerading as a preacher in Depression-era Iowa who is determined to take down those he sees as greedy industrialists.
