Alisson shows why Liverpool rushed him back from injury against Arsenal and leaves Alexandre Lacazette devastated in stands

There were doubts over whether Alisson would start against Arsenal on Monday night – and Liverpool fans will be mightily glad that he did.

The Brazilian missed training over the weekend and many expected Adrian to start in goal against the Gunners, but the Reds’ No.1 was rushed back and with good reason.

Despite going behind, Liverpool produced a dominant display to beat Arsenal 3-1 at Anfield, with Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and debutant Diogo Jota among the goals.

Alexandre Lacazette grabbed the opener for Arsenal, and was devastated not to equalise with the scores at 2-1.

In big moments which can define a season, you need your goalkeeper to step up, and Alisson does that time and time again.

He thwarted Lacazette to maintain Liverpool’s lead, showing exactly why he was thrown into the team despite injury fears.

While it looks like the France striker wastefully fired straight at the goalkeeper, it was Alisson’s positioning which forced the miss.

The pass from Dani Ceballos caught the entire Reds defence napping, but not Alisson.

He was onto Lacazette in a flash, closing down the angle perfectly, making himself big, leaving no room to go round, and forcing him to panic.

Alisson was hardly called into action all night, but when he was, he came up with the goods.

That’s what makes him the best in the league.
