Best natural sleep supplements in Australia

1. A Good Night’s Sleep, Australian Natural Care

Hero ingredients include magnesium, passionflower, and California poppy – all of which are saviours for sleep.

First up, magnesium is a muscle relaxant. Deficiency is linked to insomnia, frequent nighttime wakings, an irregular sleep wake cycle (being awake in the evening and sleepy throughout the day) and cramping.

According to research, many of these symptoms are reversed with magnesium supplementation, so if those are your challenges, this may be the supplement for you.

However, it doesn’t stop there; the blend also contains Californian poppy, another natural relaxant.

Third, it also features passionflower – a herbal compound found in a recent study to be as effective as sleeping pills.

Tick, tick and tick to a good night’s sleep, indeed.

2. Noble Kava, Fijikava

This plant medicine may be new to you, but kava has actually been used for hundreds of years by Pacific Islanders to support sleep and ease anxiety.

Its active ingredient kavalactones is a mild sedative, hence the traditional uses.

Importantly, unlike other sedatives such as alcohol, kava helps you feel more at ease without compromising mental clarity or making you feel hungover the next day.

With regards to anxiety, Fijikava has been found in clinical trials to improve symptoms of anxiety, making it perfect for those finding their anxious and overactive mind keeping them up at night.

3. Ashwagandha, Go Healthy

Sick of waking at 3am? Ashwagandha could be your saving grace – and here’s why.

Research shows ashwagandha (AKA magic mushrooms) can lower stress hormone cortisol levels by 32 per cent.

With respect to your night time waking’s, know that this is largely driven by excessively high cortisol levels. As a stimulating hormone, cortisol helps us wake up.

However, if your levels of the hormone are too high, when your body naturally experiences a rise in the hormone (around 3am), you’re likely to wake.

The blend also contains Siberian Ginseng, a traditional Chinese medicine used to lengthen sleep.

4. Mind Calm, Healthy Care

Want the benefits of lavender but can’t stand the smell? This is for you.

Activating the parasympathetic nervous system, lavender can slow brain and overall mental activity. As a result, you’re likely to sleep deeper throughout the night.

As noted in a recent study, those sleeping in a lavender filled room reported a 20 per cent increase in sleep quality. And in case you were wondering, this largely measured sleep depth and how refreshed they felt upon waking.

If your sleep is seriously affecting your daily routine, book an appointment with your GP to discuss other options. And make sure to consult a medical professional for more information on sleep supplements.
