Bobby Lashley says SummerSlam would be the ‘perfect time’ for Brock Lesnar to return and face him, WWE champion considering MMA return and boxing debut

It took a long time, but Bobby Lashley is finally WWE champion.

Now he sits atop of the mountain, Lashley will take on Drew McIntyre this Sunday at Hell in a Cell and if he wins, the Scot cannot challenge him during his reign again.

Bobby Lashley took the long route to the WWE title, but he’s in the form of his life

So who would be next? SummerSlam is just two months away and it will be WWE’s first packed stadium show since the pandemic shut the world down early last year.

Could Brock Lesnar finally return? Could we finally get the dream match between two legit badasses we’ve always wanted?

Speaking to talkSPORT, Lashley said he thinks now is the best chance he’ll ever have at that matchup.

“It could be, it could be,” Lashley replied when asked about Lesnar at SummerSlam. “You never know. Normally when he comes back it’s for a reason and it’s that big, shiny gold belt.

“Right now, I have it. If there is a chance, if there was a time he’d want to come back, it would be the perfect time. And I’m always ready. Is this the time though? We don’t know.”

Lesnar is yet to re-sign with WWE after letting his contract expire after WrestleMania 36. However, with the world opening up and fans returning, he’s expected to return at some stage.

Lashley is an impressive 15-2 inside the octagon and finished his MMA run on an eight-fight win streak with five of those coming in Bellator.

Lesnar is, of course, a former UFC heavyweight champion. Could the pair meet in a Fight Pit match or some kind of MMA variant in WWE?

“You’re fantasy booking, huh? [laughs]. I would, I would. We could do something special and different, especially in a cage. There’s a lot of different possibilities in Brock and I.”

So is Lashley done with fighting? Now 44, he has just reached the top of WWE and has to expend all of his time in energy in being the top player in the company.

That’s a spot he dearly wants, but his competitive spirit wants him to fight, too. Perhaps even in a boxing ring…

“For me, I train the same. I do a little fight training when I have a fight, but I train the same. So right now all my focus is definitely on wrestling because once you start focusing on other things you can lose the title.

“All my focus is on wrestling right now and I think I have the ability to keep that title for a long time so I don’t know if there is going to be any opportunity to do anything else. If there was ever a chance, I’m more than up for it.

“I do think about the fact that when you can’t do something anymore, you can’t do something. I don’t want to get the point where I can’t do things. And as I still can do it, I would love to be able to go out and fight.

“That competitive spirit makes you want to do everything. I’ve also been thinking about going into boxing, I’ve done a little bit of training in that. I still like fighting. That’s a possibility also.”
