Cedric Alexander talks the 'tremendous amount' MVP has done for him and inside him joining The Hurt Business

Cedric Alexander joined The Hurt Business two weeks ago on RAW and he’s already enjoying the strongest stretch of his main roster career in WWE.

Being a featured player in the hottest stable in WWE right now is a great position to be in and the former Crusierweight champion had been crying out for a real story to sink his teeth into for a long time.

Cedric Alexander decided to buy-in to The Hurt Business

talkSPORT caught up with Alexander this week and we talked all things Hurt Business.

On The Hurt Business not being about race like Nation of Domination…

100 percent [not about race]. I remember vividly, there was a dinner the first night I joined The Hurt Business, me and the guys went out for dinner.

MVP just made it very clear ‘look, this is about green, this isn’t about colour. The only colour we care about is green.’

And that was something that I came into it knowing full well because there was a time where hanging around on RAW, I was just a spoke in the wheel. I was just rolling along, nothing really happening, I was just kind of there.

And then MVP gave me this opportunity and I was like ‘I’m tired of just being another dude. I wanna be a star, I wanna make something of myself. I wanna accomplish things and not just say hey, I was here.’

Everyone is just happy to be here sometimes. I got tired of being happy to be there. I want to accomplish things. I want to do things that make me happy and make me feel like I’m succeeding and not just doing it for everything else.

It’s one of those things where I’ve been here for four years and I’ve accomplished quite a lot, but I know I can do more. I know I’m worth more and capable of doing a lot more. Being apart of The Hurt Business was the perfect way to show I’m more than a cruiserweight.

On what MVP has done for his career…

MVP has done a tremendous amount for me. It’s not even he went through great lengths to make things happen for me, it’s the small things I was missing and he jumped on them for me.

I would say my biggest issue in WWE was my talking, being comfortable in front of a camera with a mic in my hand. That’s something I wasn’t really trained up on when I was coming up in the wrestling business.

I was straight forward, I’m a work rate guy. That was my thing. I never really had the opportunity to speak out, be more vocal and project a character.

WWE is a whole world of people – it’s hard to find that place. Once I got with MVP, he explains thing that are like ‘wow.’ I never thought of that before. It’s the smallest things you might have heard a thousand times but for some reason the way he says it just sticks with you so much more!

And he can tell me ‘hey, do this, do that’ – and it’s like got it, easy. I feel more easy working with MVP in the past few weeks, months, whatever than I have in the last five or six years of wrestling.

On MVP being one of WWE’s best pickups in years…

He’s not a selfish human being. He understands that he’s kind of had his time and it’s time to spread the wealth for the guy a little more active in wrestling.

He’s said before he wants to back out of wrestling just a little bit and focus more on the managerial roles, speaking and I’m a case of that. In the last two or three weeks, my stock has sky rocketed and it’s all thanks to MVP.

I can’t put him over enough for what he’s done for me.

On when he knew he was joining The Hurt Business…

Honestly, I never officially knew until the night it happened. It was always the case of ‘it would be cool if’ and it would be nice if this happened and I’d heard maybe it would be Ricochet or Apollo [Crews] – we just never knew.

There was never a set plan until it was like ‘hey, you! You’re in the Hurt Business now.’ Ok, sweet [laughs]. Let’s do it. I’ll take that.

It was ready I’m ready to cut this [promo]. I’ve been working on promos secretly myself for a few years now, but I’ve just never had the opportunity to speak. It’s been working out great.

The last time I was nervous doing a promo was the first night I joined The Hurt Business. After that, everything was kicking. There’s small things I have to work on of course, but there’s never been a point where I’ve been like ‘I don’t know if I can do this!’ At some points, I’ll forget what I’m about to talk about, but then I’m there in the ring and I’m like ‘Oh, OK, I got this.’

On if he’d welcome Ricochet and Apollo Crews into The Hurt Business…

Of course. Granted, they don’t agree with my current business decisions. But still, more the merrier. They’re still my friends in some way and if they want to come over and be smarter – fine! I’m all for it.

That’s something we’d have to clear with the rest of the boys – MVP, Bobby and Shelton – but I’m all for it.

Ricochet is a great athlete, so is Apollo. Why not have more great athletes doing what we do – hurting people.

On if The Hurt Business will be targeting the Tag Team titles

Of course we will! Right now we’re focused on making sure Bobby Lashley has the United States championship locked down and after Clash of Champions I’m sure we’re going to make our way to some more gold…or platinum? [laughs].

Catch Cedric Alexander and The Hurt Business on Monday Night Raw every week on BT Sport and watch Clash of Champions this Sunday on the WWE Network
