Conor McGregor appears to aim crass message at Khabib Nurmagomedov's father in now deleted tweet

Conor McGregor appeared to aim a sick message at UFC rival Khabib Nurmagomedov on Monday night, only to delete the tweet.

The taunt in question seemed to relate to the late father of the former lightweight champion, who he has shared a fierce rivalry with since 2018.

McGregor trash-talk has gone too far in the eyes of many

In the aftermath of Dustin Poirer’s victory over McGregor at UFC 264, Khabib tweeted: “Good always defeats evil. Very happy for Dustin Poirier. I hope you will get the [lightweight] belt end of the year.”

In a delayed response, McGregor, who has stayed silent since the fight on 11 July, said: “Covid is good and father is evil?”

Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap, died from complications of COVID-19 in the summer of 2020.

McGregor’s antics before and after his third fight with Poirier were in stark contrast to the build up to their second meeting at UFC 257 in January 2020.

Then he was respectful but then did a U-turn by bringing Poirier’s wife, Jolie into the conversation.

Even after the fight as McGregor was on the floor with a broken leg, he continued to throw insults at the Poiriers, with Jolie reacting by giving the stricken Irishman the finger.

McGregor then took aim at fans on Twitter in another since deleted tweet.

“Jumping a guillotine is not a takedown,” he wrote.

“Absorbing the kick into the leg is not a check.

“A doctor stoppage is not a tko.

“The game goes on bitches.

“Piss ants to me yous all are.

“Not even peasants. Piss ants!“Now get to your stationed vlogger cameras you novice bums!”

McGregor is expected to be out of action for about a year with UFC president Dana White suggested we may see him back in the octagon in July 2022.

Poirier’s next fight will come against UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliviera meaning that by the time McGregor returns, he may walk into a title fight despite having one victory in the past five years.

White has already suggested he would be willing to make Poirier and McGregor for a fourth time and given how that fight has performed at the box office being the second and third most-bought pay-per-views in UFC history, that’s understandable.

Khabib remains retired from the sport and is now coaching fighters at the American Kickboxing Academy. He left the sport a pristine 29-0, which included iconic win over McGregor at UFC 229.
