'Did he think he was doing Sudoku?!'

Ally McCoist was in one of those moods on Wednesday morning, with the Scotland legend descending into hysterics over Eric Dier’s ‘when you gotta go’ moment in the Carabao Cup.

Tottenham beat Chelsea on penalties on Tuesday night to book their place in the quarter-finals in an action packed game that finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

But that wasn’t what made the headlines on Wednesday morning, with Dier earning the wrath of manager Jose Mourinho for his impromptu toilet break dominating the headlines.

Mourinho was fuming at Dier for leaving the pitch

Mourinho was left stunned on the sidelines when, with just 15 minutes left and Spurs 1-0 down, Dier trotted off the pitch and down the tunnel to nip to the loo.

The boss’ perplexed expression soon turned to anger as he marched down the tunnel after him, with Chelsea almost scoring in his absence.

Dier soon emerged, though, and went on to score in the shoot-out after Erik Lamela’s late equaliser. He was even named man-of-the-match, but later tweeted a picture of the award on a toilet, with the caption: ‘The real M.O.M’.

After the game, the England international admitted ‘nature was calling’ and Mourinho saw the funny side, with the boss revealing he was ‘pushing him to come back as soon as possible’.

Mourinho rushed to the changing room to get Dier back on to the pitch

Dier was then seen running back on!

And that really tickled McCoist when they discussed the game on the talkSPORT Breakfast.

“That’s brilliant from Jose,” laughed the former Rangers striker.

“What was he thinking?

“Did Jose think he was going to disappear in there with the Telegraph or something?

“Did he think he was going to be sat in there for ten minutes? Of course he’s going to hurry up, he’s taking a break from the game, man!

“That’s brilliant! ‘I just wanted to make sure he was hurrying up’, as if Eric was sitting there with The Sun Sudoku!”
