Eddie Hearn reveals relationship with 2K, says 'no excuses' to prevent new boxing video game in future

Eddie Hearn has told talkSPORT.com that he now has a relationship with 2K.

The video game publishing giants famously produce annual NBA and WWE releases as well as a variety of other major games.

Hearn has had time to consider new projects

At the start of lockdown, when the sport of boxing was ground to a halt in March, Hearn teased the possibility of using his free time to work on a boxing video game.

He initially hinted at the return of the iconic Fight Night series, but then declared that he wanted to produce his own rival game with a different company.

This week, Hearn has been doing some PR work with 2K to promote their new Mafia release.

He explained to talkSPORT.com’s Alex McCarthy: “I think during lockdown obviously you get the chance and the time to be involved in new projects, stuff like that.

“Being at home a lot around the kids, I found myself playing a lot of computer games.

“My computer game experience probably goes back to Mario Kart, Nintendo 64s and Paperboy and that’s really going back a long way.

“When we spoke to 2K about Mafia, I told my kids and they were like, ‘Shut up.’

“I was like, ‘Yeah, seriously.’ They know about the game and even for me to be associated with a game that is so popular with the younger generation.

“I went in and I was quite blown away to be honest with you…

“We’re looking at loads of projects on a computer game level and it was great to learn more about it.

“I didn’t think it would have the kind of effect on me that it did in terms of how good it is.

“It was fun and gives me a little bit of street cred with the younger generation.”

When asked if a boxing game with 2K is in the works, Hearn replied: “I know they wanna focus on Mafia, so I’m not gonna go too deep into that, but I’m on board with 2K.

“So if the call ever comes to do a boxing game, I’m all in.

“And I’ve learned a lot in this experience, I know we’re talking about Mafia but the demand for a boxing game is off the planet.

“I’ve got the relationship now with 2K, so no excuses. But right now I’m just enjoing Mafia.”

Eddie was talking to talkSPORT.com for the launch of 2K Games’ new Mafia: Definitive Edition, available from today on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Mafia: Definitive Edition is a comprehensive, built-from-the-ground-up remake of the original Mafia, featuring all-new gameplay sequences and features, best-in-class cinematics, an updated script filled with rich new dialogue, expanded backstories and additional cutscenes.
