Fighting between Hamas and Israel entered its second day with overnight airstrikes across Gaza and rockets fired at Israel. Footage from Gaza revealed flattened buildings in the aftermath of Israeli strikes. The strikes occurred after the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, vowed to retaliate following a land and air assault by Hamas fighters on Saturday. Militants were observed pouring into Israel through a breached border fence and using motorised paragliders, launching attacks on several Israeli cities.

In an escalatory move, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for missiles fired into northern Israel, asserting that the action was carried out in solidarity with Hamas
