Global National: June 4, 2023 | Brush between warships has US calling on China to reign in conduct

In the wake of Global News’ exclusive reporting in the Indo-Pacific region, where our crew witnessed firsthand a Chinese warship buzzing a U.S. Navy destroyer in the Taiwan Straight – a close encounter the U.S. says was intentional. Speaking at a top-level security summit in Singapore on Sunday, U.S. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin labelled China’s actions “irresponsible” and called on China to reign in that type of conduct – “conduct that could force things to spiral out of control.” Mackenzie Gray reports.

The close encounter between warships in the Taiwan Straight that was captured by our Global News crew has triggered a war of words between China and the U.S. and is deepening discussions among defence ministers meeting at that top-level security summit in Singapore.
