‘Harry Kane will be seriously considering leaving Tottenham… and it looks like Jose Mourinho wants to go too’, Trevor Sinclair tells talkSPORT

Trevor Sinclair doesn’t believe his former side Manchester City will break the bank in order to finance a deal to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham this summer.

Kane, along with England teammate Jack Grealish, have been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad in recent months.

Signing Kane and Grealish would set back Man City a mouthwatering fee

Spurs skipper Kane is likely to cost interested suitors in excess of £100million, but Sinclair doesn’t believe City will be prepared to spend that sort of money.

“If you look at the principles Man City try and stick to and their philosophy, I can’t see them spending £100m on a player,” Sinclair told talkSPORT Breakfast.

“They don’t want to spend that kind of money. They’ve already had to invest a lot from when Sheikh Mansour took over the football club.

“They were so far behind everybody on the pitch and not even that they had to invest into their training facility because Carrington wasn’t up to it.

“They’ve never broken [transfer] records. They’ve never been near breaking Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea.

“All the other clubs are buying players for £80m or £90m, Man City are not near that. I don’t think that’s by accident, I think that’s by design.”

While in conversation with ex-Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara, it was suggested to Sinclair that City need to sign Kane to ensure they stay ahead of their rivals – an assertion the former England international rejected.

He responded: “Why do they? They’ve just won the league. They didn’t win the Champions League through a lack of quality either, it’s because they made mistakes.

Sinclair doesn’t believe Man City need Kane

“I’ve always been quite impressed with Man City since Pep took over because they keep their cards very close to their chest.

“If you look at any gossip pages to do with sport, it’s very rarely you hear anything about Manchester City.

“I think Txiki [Begiristain] does his work, he keeps it very private. They’ll be a couple of rumours and usually its red herrings where they pretend they’re going for someone and they’ll leave that player alone for their actual main target.

“I’m not surprised they’re keeping their cards close to their chest and letting leaks come out to the media saying we’re interested in this player and that player.”
