Manchester United ponder loan move for Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele as Jadon Sancho alternative, with Edinson Cavani and Luka Jovic also transfer targets

Manchester United are weighing up a loan move for Ousmane Dembele as the Jadon Sancho transfer saga continues to rumble on.

United are said to be ‘likely’ to bring in two players before the transfer window shuts on October 5, with a forward top of their priority list.

Dembele, who Barcelona signed for a staggering £135.5 million three years ago, is available for at little as £45m.

However, The Times claim that United are only interested in signing the French World Cup winner on a season-long loan deal – if their long-standing pursuit of Sancho ends in failure.

It is thought the club will also aim to complete a deal for a left-back, rumoured to be Alex Telles, and a right-footed forward.

Sancho is the preferred option, but it is uncertain whether that deal will be completed by the 11pm deadline on Monday.

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims the Red Devils are looking at two options – Edinson Cavani and Luka Jovic.

Cavani is a free agent having left Paris Saint-Germain and is known to be a team player having spent time out wide instead of his preferred centre-forward position when partnered with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 33-year-old left the Ligue 1 club having scored 200 goals in just 301 games and could follow former teammate Thiago Silva in heading to the Premier League.

Jovic hasn’t been able to play for Real Madrid as consistently as he would have liked and is said to have been offered out on loan.

The 22-year-old signed for £50million from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer but had a tough first season in Spain.

He scored just twice in 27 appearances during an injury-plagued debut campaign
