N'Golo Kante misses out and Frank Lampard faces striker dilemma

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard can cap a fine first season in charge by add silverware to Champions League qualification.

He could put the cherry on the cake at Wembley if they can beat Arsenal in the FA Cup final – live on talkSPORT.

It’s been a successful first season for manager Frank Lampard, especially considering the club sold Eden Hazard in the summer and had a ban on transfer this time last year.

It’s been a promising debut campaign for Lampard in the Premier League

His side, with the help of a few young upstarts, have managed to beat Tottenham, Arsenal, Wolves, and Sheffield United to a top four finish.

It shows the potential of the man across an entire campaign and new signings Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner will certainly make them even more interesting to watch next term.

But how will Lampard handle an FA Cup final as a manager? A one-off battle of wits with another recent ex-player Mikel Arteta is awaiting him at Wembley.

It promises to be an intriguing test of his mettle and of his bottle as it could easily be argued his Blues side stumbled to a top four finish thanks to Leicester City’s shock collapse.

You can hear it all live on talkSPORT and our coverage of the match starts at 2pm from the Box Park on Wembley Way.

Chelsea team news

Unfortunately for the Blues, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has suffered a late knock this week and will miss the match at Wembley.

They also have two other big injury concerns with N’Golo Kante still suffering from a hamstring complaint and midfielder Willian is also a doubt after missing the final Premier League game of the season against Wolves.

“Kante and Willian are in the squad and we will see if they are fit enough to be involved. Ruben Loftus-Cheek picked up a small problem,” Lampard said in his pre-match press conference.

Kepa Arrizabalaga will almost certainly remain out of the team with Willy Caballero Chelsea’s regular cup goalkeeper.

Long-term absentee Billy Gilmour also misses out of the final.

How Chelsea should look against Arsenal

In the event of Kante being missing once again, we’re going to see Lampard go with a tried and tested formula.

In the last match of the Premier League season, the young manager made just two changes to the side who lost 5-3 to Liverpool.

He brought in Caballero for Arrizabalaga to give him more match practice, while he gave Christian Pulisic a start with Willian out injured.

The Blues should keep the same team if the Brazil ace joins Kante on the sidelines with Mason Mount playing towards the right in the final third.

The defence will stay the same to give some extra stability, while Oliver Giroud should start ahead of Tammy Abraham as he looks to sink his former club at Wembley.
