Sam Frost on managing your mental health

In an exclusive interview with Body+Soul, Bachelor contestant Nicole Campbell reveals everything about her health and wellness rituals – and it sounds like she’s a perfect match for adventurous and fit Locky Gilbert.

The premier of 2020’s The Bachelor finally dropped and boy, a lot went down.

From the get go, there was drama (hello Zoe-Clare and Areeba!), there was entertainment in the form of Rosemary’s penguin outfit, and there was the triple threat rose, which bachelor Locky Gilbert gave to the lady in the fancy dance costume, Nicole Campbell.

To recap, the triple threat rose earns its owner a single date, a spot in a group date and an invitation to Locky’s Bachelor pad for one-on-one time – all in the space of one week. So, it’s safe to say Nicole made quite the impression!

But as much as the 26-year-old is already a huge threat, how much potential does she have to be the girl of Locky’s dreams? After all, all we know about her is that she’s a (very good) professional dancer.

Well, Body+Soul asked Nicole everything about her health and wellness rituals to see if they align with Locky’s – and TBH, they have a lot of similar interests…

What does a day on a plate look like to you?

Love an egg, avo and vegemite toast for breakfast. Depending on what I’m doing, tuna, veggies and rice, or crackers for lunch. And for dinner it depends how adventurous I’m feeling. I’m not the best cook but love a chicken stir fry or some salmon and veggies.

But I also have the biggest sweet tooth and will treat myself to chocolate regularly. Probably too often, but as I like the say, chocolate is healthy for the soul.

Did you change your diet prior to going on Bachelor?

No, I didn’t change anything going into filming. I was happy and healthy in myself leading up to the experience.

What does a typical week of exercise look like to you?

Since this whole lockdown period has happened, not going to lie, I haven’t had the best routine. I try to go to the gym a couple of times a week.

I love doing yoga to keep up my flexibility and for my mind. And as soon as I can get back into dancing and classes I’ll be sure to do that as much as I can as well.

What is the most extreme thing you’ve done in the name of health and wellness?

I can’t say I’ve ever done anything extreme in the name of health. I’ve always been lucky that my job as a dancer has also doubled as a tool to keep me fit and have always been grateful for that. Doing overseas contracts for months on end definitely puts strain on your body – but not in a negative way.

What is the most extravagant thing you’ve done in the name of love?

Going on the Bachelor, for sure.

Do you have any wellness rituals you swear by? If so, what are they?

I honestly believe that the ocean is such a strong healing tool. Whenever I don’t feel like myself, a swim in the ocean or a walk on the beach makes such a difference to my mental clarity!

What are the top three qualities you look for in a partner?

Someone who doesn’t take themselves or others too seriously, and positivity and confidence.
