Poilievre slams Trudeau government for "woke hypocrisy"

Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault passionately argued for a price on pollution during question period in the House of Commons on Thursday, saying that “If woke means standing up for the future of my children and grandchildren so that they have access to clean air and clean water — then so be it.”

“He’s woke and so Canadians are broke,” replied Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre. “I’ll tell you what woke means in practice: His government approved dumping millions of litres of raw sewage into the St. Lawrence River, that’s what woke means. Woke means charging a single mom higher costs to drive to work and feed her kids while the prime minister jets around using Canadian tax dollars to pump emissions into our atmosphere – that is the woke hypocrisy across the way,” Poilievre continued.

Conservatives and Liberals also clashed over the new design of the new Canadian passport, which was revealed on Wednesday. Conservative MP John Nator asked why images of Terry Fox, Vimy Ridge and Nellie McClung, which were all in the previous iteration of the passport, were removed by the new design. “Why is this Liberal government so intent on erasing Canadian history from our passport?" Nator asked.

Karina Gould, the minister for families, replied to Nator saying “This is emblematic of how the Conservatives acted when they were in government – they spent more time on symbols than on action,” Gould said. She also added that “When the Terry Fox statue was desecrated, what did [the Conservatives] do? They cheered on the convoy,” she argued.
