Roy Keane gives damning assessment of Manchester United and explains why 'honeymoon period is over' for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Roy Keane believes there are ‘worrying signs’ for Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after an unconvincing start to the new campaign.

Following a 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace on the opening weekend, the Red Devils limped to a 3-2 victory at Brighton – despite the hosts having 18 shots and setting a new record for shots against the woodwork.

It was a great win but there were more of the same problems for Maguire and United on Saturday

And Keane fears what will happen when his former side face stronger opposition, if they’re struggling against the likes of Brighton and Palace.

He told Sky Sports: “There are worrying signs already. I know it’s early days, but they’ve given up a lot of goals and a lot of chances against Palace and Brighton.

“So the signs aren’t great. It would be different if it was against Man City or Liverpool.

“But you’ll expect to do better against Palace and Brighton.

“Everyone’s focusing on how poor they’ve been defensively, but as a whole team it’s not been great.”

Solskjaer guided Man United to a third-place finish last season along with three semi-finals, which was deemed a relative success, but Keane suggests that won’t be good enough this time around.

Following nine years without a Premier League title, Keane reckons Solskjaer’s side must get closer to silverware this season or face the consequences.

“The remit will be different for Ole this year, last year they would’ve asked him to get into the top four, and they made three semi-finals,” he added.

“But this year it’ll be higher. They have to get closer to Liverpool and Man City, the points total cannot be the same as it has been the last three or four years.

“He’ll probably have to get his hands on a trophy. I think the honeymoon period is definitely over for Ole, the pressure will start to mount now, especially with their performances over the last week or so.”
