WE Day California returned to The Forum in Los Angeles Thursday (April 19), bringing together more than 16,000 students and educators to celebrate youth activism.

The event’s veteran Selena Gomez was joined onstage by a young fan, Nellie Mainor, who suffers from a rare kidney disease. Gomez shared an adorable photo of her holding hands with her new pal Nellie on Instagram, thanking the WE Movement for all their hard work. “They have such a force of young people that are doing so much for their communities and the world. This is Nellie. She’s fearless and is wanting to spread awareness about kidney diseases.”

In one particular emotional moment of the day was Jennifer Aniston sharing the stage with two Parkland survivors, Jaclyn Corin and Cameron Kasky, who also cofounded the mega-powerful March For Our Lives movement.

“To me, students are the future. We strive to move forward to make the world a better place,” Corin announced.

“Your generation is demanding accountability and demanding change, and I want to personally thank you for that,” Aniston told the duo.

The one-day event is connected to the yearlong education program, WE Schools, which aims to provide schools and community groups with educational resources and action campaigns in the hopes of sparking or improving social initiatives.

The Chainsmokers, Cyndi Lauper and Dierks Bentley all performed at the event, while Will Ferrell and Morgan Freeman were among the countless other celebrities in attendance.
