Following their appearance at the North American semiconductor conference in Washington, D.C., Canada’s Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne and Economic Development Minister Mary Ng gave an update on their visit to the U.S. capital — live, from the Embassy of Canada to the United States.

Champagne said semi-conductors are the "DNA of progress."

Champagne said that "progress" was being made with Stellantis on its EV battery plant in Windsor, Ont., after Premier Doug Ford announced the province had offered more money to the automaker in a bid to keep the construction moving.

It comes after the company said earlier this week that the federal government had "not delivered what was agreed to," and had put a pause on construction of the plant.

The intention of Champagne’s and Ng’s Washington visit was not only to discuss how to strengthen and secure the semiconductor supply chain across the continent, but to meet with U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo. The visit comes amid pressure of a potential invasion of Taiwan from China. Because Taiwan is one of the world’s largest semiconductor suppliers, an invasion of the country could trigger a global economic crisis.
