Stoke City flop Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting saves PSG with late winner against Atalanta to send them to the Champions League semi-finals

Paris Saint-Germain produced one of the most breathless comebacks to stun Atalanta in the final five minutes of their Champions League quarter-final.

Former Stoke City winger Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting proved to be the hero of the night in Lisbon as he came off the bench to completely change the course of the game.

Stoke City flop Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored the decisive goal and played a crucial part for PSG

Choupo-Moting crossed for Neymar to find Marquinhos with just 15 seconds of normal time remaining, and he tapped in from just six yards out to level the tie after Atalanta’s first-half opener.

The Serie A side had led from the 26th minute onwards after Chelsea reject Mario Pasalic curled a beautiful effort past Keylor Navas to give the Italians a deserved lead.

After Neymar and substitute Kylian Mbappe had tried desperately to break down Atalanta, it was the former Stoke man who produced the moment of magic to break Atalanta hearts.

Neymar found Mbappe inside the box with a wicked through ball which turned the full-back inside out and the France international found Choupo-Moting from just three yards out.

For the first time in 26 years, PSG are in the semi-final of Europe’s elite competition and the trophy they crave so desperately is within in reach. They will face the winners of RB Leipzig vs Atletico Madrid, with that match scheduled for Thursday night.

Yet credit must go to Atalanta for an incredible run to the quarter-finals, which included three defeats in the group stages, and for their brave performance over the past 11 months.
