Phenylephrine, the main nasal decongestant ingredient in popular cold and allergy medications, doesn't actually work in tablet form, according to advisers from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The report could lead to over-the-counter medicines such as Dayquil, Mucinex and NeoCitran being pulled from shelves, and one Canadian doctor isn't surprised by the U.S. FDA’s findings.
