Thomas Muller suspended for both legs of Champions League round of 16 clash

he’s out

The Germany attacker will be forced to sit out the tie as punishment for being sent off in Bayern’s final group stage match

Thomas Muller will miss both legs of Bayern Munich’s Champions League round of 16 clash against Liverpool due to suspension, it has been confirmed.

Muller, the Germany attacker, was sent off in Bayern’s final group stage match for a high kick on Nicolas Tagliafico, the Ajax full-back.

Muller was dismissed for the above challenge

His punishment was confirmed on Friday morning, with Bayern announcing they will appeal the decision in a statement released on Twitter.

Muller’s punishment means he will miss both legs of Bayern’s round of 16 match up against last season’s runners-up Liverpool, who finished second in their group behind Paris Saint-Germain.

Muller has made 25 appearances this season, scoring five goals and creating a further six. He has been a key player under Niko Kovac, the Croatian appointed Bayern manager prior to the start of the season who currently finds himself under pressure.

Despite finishing top of their Champions League group, Bayern are struggling to compete in the Bundesliga with league leaders Borussia Dortmund six points ahead of the perennial champions.
