Tottenham Hotspur have been offered the chance to sign Watford captain Troy Deeney, according to reports.

Spurs allowed Troy Parrott to join Millwall on loan for the 2020/21 season and boss Jose Mourinho wants to provide cover for Harry Kane up front.

Deeney has been linked with a shock move to Tottenham Hotspur

The Hornets will face Millwall next season in the Championship after their relegation was confirmed on the final day of the Premier League season last weekend and want to get some big earners off the books.

Deeney, 32, played on for the majority of the final games after the restart with an injury – but the captain was unable to save his beloved club from sinking to the second tier.

According to Mail Sport, Spurs have enquired about a loan deal initially as Deeney has just one year left on his contract at Vicarage Road.

The striker was typically brave and honest after defeat at Arsenal confirmed his side’s relegation, thinking of those less fortunate than himself at the club.

Deeney told Sky Sports: “We haven’t quite been good enough at both ends of the pitch and it showed again today. It’s frustrating, it’s disappointing, it’s heart breaking for the people who work behind the scenes.

“There are a lot of people at clubs who normally get affected by relegation so we feel sorry for them. I’ll take the stick with regards what comes social media wise.

“The harsh reality of it is that some people will lose their jobs because we haven’t been good enough. As players we have to stand forward, take that and as a club and a community we go again.”

Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson is also another possible option for Mourinho, although Spurs are aware of the far larger transfer fee required to prise the England international from the south coast.

The Hornets are close to securing the services of former West Ham full-back Jeremy Ngakia, according to reports.

Ngakia decided to run out his contract at the London Stadium and is available for free, provided the club pay a small compensation fee.

Darren Bent says Tottenham fans won’t be happy with Jose Mourinho’s style and he is ‘lucky’ to be playing games behind closed doors
