UFC legend Georges St-Pierre jokes his hometown statue looks like former US President Obama as he joins Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah in having an unfortunate bronze likeness

Georges St-Pierre proved he has a world-class sense of humour by acknowledging his statue in his hometown near Quebec bears some resemblance to Barack Obama.

Last month, the former two-weight UFC world champion was immortalised in bronze after his decorated career inside the octagon, with many believing he is the best to ever do it.

The 40-year-old last fought in 2017 when he choked out Michael Bisping to become the middleweight world champion having dominated at 170lbs earlier in his career.

GSP lost just twice in his professional MMA career, earning legendary status and the people of Canada decided to recognise his achievements with the statue in the town of Saint-Isidore.

With his elbows up in fighting stance and a smile on his face, some fans have been quick to quip it bears a resemblance to 44th President of the United States, Obama.

And now, a month after the statue was unveiled, the UFC legend has proved he can take a joke by joining in with the banter on his Instagram page.

GSP is unlikely to be the last sports star who falls victim to an unfortunate likeness being sculpted in bronze.

Cristiano Ronaldo was honoured in his hometown of Madeira with a bust which looked nothing like him, whilst Mohamed Salah’s statue in Egypt was compared to Marv from Home Alone.
