David Moyes news

Moyes exits West Ham United

West Ham United have confirmed that manager David Moyes has left the east London club after they decided against extending his existing contract.

The Hammers had initially signed Moyes on a short-term deal until the end of the season and they have now opted against prolonging his stay.

Alongside Moyes, assistants Alan Irvine, Stuart Pearce and Billy McKinlay have also left the Hammers, and joint-chairman David Sullivan has revealed that the club will pursue a ‘high-calibre’ replacement before the end of the month.

“I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to David Moyes and his staff for achieving the target of keeping West Ham United in the Premier League,” he is quoted as saying by the club’s official website.

West Ham United ended their Premier League campaign in 13th with 42 points but the club’s supporters were not entirely supportive of the standard of play during their relegation tussle.

The club are likely to go on a spending spree to bolster the central defensive and goalkeeping positions, in particular, but they are also doubts in the forward department amid the regular fitness concerns to Andy Carroll.
