The surge in demand for artificial intelligence (AI) technology has driven semiconductor company Nvidia towards an 85 per cent increase in shares this year.

The chipmaker is expected to soon surpass a market value of US$1 trillion, which would put it in an elite club with companies such as Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet.
