Food Banks Canada CEO Kirsten Beardsley said amid high levels of inflation, the charitable organization is seeing its "highest level of food bank use in Canadian history." She calls the current use of food banks "unsustainable."

Sharon Palmer, executive director of the Barrie, Ont., Food Bank, said her organization has seen its food donations maintain previous levels, but has fallen short in financial donations.

“Financial donations are also really important because that’s what we use to buy the perishable items like meat, milk, margarine, eggs and those are highly valued items for the clients,” Palmer said.
