Mourners lined the streets of Moscow near the church were Alexei Navalny's funeral was held on Friday, throwing flowers at the funeral procession as it passed on its way to the late Russian opposition leader's final resting place.

A large presence of Moscow police kept order but did not intervene as Navalny supporters chanted his name.

Navalny, President Vladimir Putin's fiercest critic inside Russia, died at the age of 47 in an Arctic penal colony on Feb. 16. sparking accusations from his supporters that he had been murdered.

The Kremlin has denied any state involvement in his death.
