Maryland Governor Wes Moore provided an update on Friday as crews continue their work in removing debris in an effort to restore the port of Baltimore. A container ship crashed into a support beam early Tuesday morning, collapsing a large portion of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

“This is not about Maryland’s economy. This is about the nation's economy,” Moore said, adding that more cars and farm equipment are handled at the port than any other port in the U.S. “At least 8,000 on the docks have jobs that have been directly impacted by this collapse.”

Moore says the U.S. Navy is supplying 4 heavy cranes — two of which have arrived, and another one scheduled to arrive Saturday night and one on Monday.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Coast Guard said that the cargo ship underwent “routine engine maintenance” in port beforehand, as divers recovered the bodies of two of six workers who plunged into the water when it collapsed. The others were presumed dead, and officials said search efforts had been exhausted.
