During an interview with the Rossiya-1 Russian state TV network on Wednesday, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said his country will be receiving tactical nuclear weapons, including “missiles and bombs” from Russia “in several days.”

The Belarus leader claimed some of the weapons are “three times more powerful” than the atomic bombs dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, by the U.S.

Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin met for a discussion in Sochi on June 9. There, Putin said that in early July, “preparations for the corresponding (nuclear) facilities will be done.”

“We will start activities regarding the deployment of the corresponding type of weapons on your territory at once,” the 70-year-old politician added.

On why he wanted the weapons, Lukashenko said “It (the deployment) was my demand. It wasn't Russia who imposed it on me. Why? Because no one in the world has ever gone to war with a nuclear power. And I don't want anyone to go to war with us.”
