Alberta Premier Danielle Smith defended her government's six-month moratorium on renewable energy projects, while also calling Ottawa’s proposed clean energy plan "disappointing" during a press conference on Monday.

“[The regulations] are unconstitutional, irresponsible, and utterly out of step with reality. If they become the law of the land, these regulations would crush Albertans finances and they would also cause dramatic increases in electricity bills for families and businesses across Canada.” Smith said.

Smith would go on to say that her government wasn’t closing the door on cooperation with the federal government but that her government believes it could be done by 2050, not by 2035.

Smith was also pressured by reporters on the government’s decision to pause renewable energy projects in the province for six-months.

“We have put a six month pause to figure out whether or not we can address these issues of reliability and affordability and siting and reclamation.”
