There are almost 600,000 Canadian children and, in total, about three million people dealing with food allergies in the country and for many, it can sometimes feel like a nightmare having to be careful what they eat or the food they're around.

Oral immunotherapy (OIT) is one type of treatment done on a daily basis that could help people better tolerate these foods. Though at-home use - under the guidance of an allergist - grows, new guidance from McMaster University has been released in the hopes of making it easier for families to know how to better administer the therapy for their children.

As Sean Previl reports, the guidelines could bring hope for some and are another step in helping those suffering from food allergies.
