Police officers in France used teargas and water cannon to break up crowds of people who had gathered in central Paris to demonstrate for Palestine despite a ban imposed by French authorities.

Gérald Darmanin, the interior minister, said people defying the ban should be arrested as 'they are susceptible to disrupt public order'.
