In tonight's top story: Millions of North Americans remain under air quality statements due to the smoke from Canada's wildfires, heightening the focus on the health effects of the thick haze. Eric Sorensen looks at how the haze is affecting outdoor workers and where it's expected to head next.

The B.C. government has unveiled a series of immediate and long-term measures to address staffing shortages at Surrey Memorial, one of the province's busiest hospitals. Neetu Garcha reports on how doctors are reacting to the provincial government's solutions, as the federal government unveils its $78-million prescription to address Canada's health-care crisis.

The Arctic could see all of its summer sea ice disappear much earlier than expected despite efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions, according to new research published in the journal Nature. Heather Yourex-West explains the consequences of the vanishing ice.
