Global National: May 7, 2023 | Out-of-control wildfires in Alberta force thousands from their homes

A province-wide emergency due to wildfires is now in place in Alberta. Nearly 25,000 people have now been forced from their homes as 109 fires are burning across the province with about a third of those fires classified as “out-of-control.” Neetu Garcha has more.

In Ukraine, the leader of Russia’s mercenary Wagner Group is signalling a U-turn in his decision to withdraw troops from the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut. It has been the location of some of the war’s bloodiest battles for months and the reversal comes at a time of renewed concern about the safety of Europe’s largest Nuclear power plant.
