Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency District Chief David Meldrum and DNRR forest resources technician David Steeves provided an update on two massive wildfires in Nova Scotia on Tuesday morning saying they're expecting a shift in the wind which could lead to "increased danger."

Steeves said there "was no significant growth on the fire perimetre" overnight, but a shift in winds could lead to an "increased danger situation" for firefighters. The heat from the sun is also expected to change the situation on the ground, Steeves said.

The wildfires are burning out of control, destroying homes and displacing thousands of people.

A 788-hectare wildfire in the Tantallon and Hammonds Plains area, about a 30-minute drive from downtown Halifax, broke out Sunday afternoon. Mandatory evacuation orders are in place in a number of neighbourhoods, impacting more than 16,400 residents.
