An inquest is examining the deaths of an elderly Tasmanian couple David and Nelda Edwards, two days apart in 2016. A detective told the inquest their son Stephen Edwards, who was a doctor at the time, admitted administering drugs to his father and mother, and that both had died relatively shortly afterwards.

The inquest in Hobart will next hear evidence from a toxicologist about the levels drugs found in the bodies of the pair. Stephen Edwards is not expected to give evidence until January.
