Jeffrey Northrup death: Toronto police chief clarifies he "supports and accepts" Zameer verdict

After Umar Zameer was found not guilty by a jury on Sunday in his trial of the death of Det. Const. Jeffrey Northrup, Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw comments afterwards came under scrutiny.

Demkiw said outside the courthouse on Sunday that "While we respect the judicial process and appreciate the work of everyone involved in this very difficult case, I share the feelings of our members — we were hoping for a different outcome."

Demkiw clarified his post-trial comments on Tuesday, saying "It's not lost on me what the conversation has been. Closure doesn't come at the expense of justice. I support and accept the verdict of the jury."
