Morrell dominated Kalvin Henderson throughout their scheduled 12-round, 168-pound championship match until referee Luis Pabon intervened in the fourth round. At 2:35 of the fourth round, Pabon stepped in to halt the bout, as Henderson (15-2-1, 11 KOs) never hit the canvas but endured significant punishment. Despite his courageous efforts, the considerable underdog absorbed a barrage of strikes in the opener of a Showtime telecast from The Armory.

The 24-year-old Morrell (7-0, 6 KOs) showcased his readiness for a potential showdown with former WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs), despite having just seven professional fights to his name. His impressive victory over Henderson garnered excitement from the capacity crowd of 4,695 at The Armory, an iconic venue in downtown Minneapolis.

While training at Ronnie Shields’ gym in Houston, Morrell, originally from Cuba, has established a strong following in Minneapolis, despite its modest Cuban population. Following a nearly successful attempt to stop Henderson in the third round, Morrell continued to assert his dominance in the fourth round, landing a decisive right hook that visibly hurt Henderson.

Although Henderson contested the stoppage, it was evident that he had absorbed significant punishment throughout the fight. Morrell's relentless assault included a series of power punches that left Henderson struggling to defend himself against the ropes. Pabon, closely monitoring the action, intervened to prevent further damage.

Morrell's aggression was evident from the outset, as he inflicted a cut around Henderson’s left eye in the first round. Despite Henderson's efforts to defend himself against Morrell's relentless attack, he found himself backed against the ropes for much of the bout.

In securing his third defense of the WBA secondary super middleweight title, Morrell expressed his desire for a potential matchup with Benavidez, as he believes a fight with Canelo Alvarez, the WBA’s true champion in the 168-pound division, is not currently within reach. Benavidez, who recently stopped former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (43-5, 36 KOs), has been mentioned as a potential opponent for Morrell by both fighters.

Henderson, from Fayetteville, Arkansas, suffered his second defeat in three fights, having previously lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Isaiah Steen (16-0, 12 KOs) last July. Despite his recent setbacks, Henderson was granted a title shot against Morrell, showcasing his resilience and determination in the ring.
