The lawyer of the family of Jordan Neely speaks in New York.

It comes as Daniel Penny, a 24-year-old U.S. Marine veteran handed himself in on a manslaughter charge, after he was accused of causing the death of 30-year-old Jordan Neely in a subway carriage on 1 May.

Mr Neely, a black homeless man, had been shouting and begging on the train for money but had not physically attacked anyone before he was restrained and put in a chokehold by Mr. Penny that lasted several minutes, witnesses said.

In a statement, Mr. Penny's lawyers have said: "Daniel never intended to harm Mr. Neely and could not have foreseen his untimely death".
