Land clearing at Lee Point in Darwin's north has been temporarily stopped as an application by Traditional Owners calls on the Federal Environment Minister to protect the site's cultural significance.
The pause is giving hope to campaigners who want to stop the housing development from proceeding.
But while it's agreed to stop clearing, Defence Housing Australia maintains the homes are much needed.
