Hawaiian Gov. Josh Green provided a critical update relating to evacuations, housing and the protection of damaged land on Tuesday afternoon, as wildfires continue to ravage the island of Maui.

Green first ordered the opening of the Lahaina bypass — the main road between Maui and West Maui — to give victims, residents, first responders and workers access to West Maui starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, adding that the road will remain open between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. each day following.

Next, Green said more than 500 hotel rooms are available for impacted residents, more than 1,000 AirBnB rooms available, as well as 473 listings from the Hawaii Fire Relief Housing program.

Lastly, the governor touched on the importance that he and his government protect the land from "predators" trying to steal or buy out the land of locals.

"I've asked my attorney general to watch for predatory practices, and we will be embedding attorneys who are going to work pro-bono for our people," Green said.

The confirmed death toll rose to 101 on Tuesday. Specialist teams are searching for missing people and about 46,000 residents and visitors have flown out of West Maui since last week, according to the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
