NDP MP Rachel Blaney said in the House of Commons on Thursday that families were taking “turkey off their Christmas dinner menu” and accused the Liberals of letting grocery CEOs "off the hook” for “sky-high food costs.”

Minister of Innovation Francois-Philippe Champagne responded by saying that they were “the first government in history” to stand up to grocery CEOs in Canada.

NDP MP Alistair MacGregor followed up by saying that Champagne “would have a starring role in ‘Oliver Twist’“ and that parents were “being forced to choose between family dinner or gifts” with the holidays around the corner.

MacGregor also said that the Liberals were letting “corporate greed go unchecked” as grocery CEOs gave themselves Christmas bonuses, and accused the Conservatives of “playing the part of ‘Scrooge’” after voting against a national school food program.
