NHL commissioner Gary Bettman held a press conference in Winnipeg on Tuesday, visiting the Manitoba capital as the Jets' season-ticket numbers have decreased, and the team's future viability is being questioned.

Bettman’s visit followed Jets owner Mark Chipman's candid comments about the team's struggles with season-ticket sales.

“I share Mark's view, but Mark isn't issuing any deadlines. He's focused on what he can do to make sure the fanbase is maximally engaged,” Bettman said. “But again, we're not operating under the Sword of Damocles or on a razor's edge. This is part of the evolution of what franchises sometimes go through.”

Responding to a question from Global’s Melissa Ridgen about the importance of seeing strong leagues in places like Winnipeg, Bettman also added that “If I didn't believe in places like Winnipeg, we never would have brought the Jets back.”
